 Update 29.01.2010

Well what can i say i have finally moved in for good and as soon as i did the weather seemed to take a turn for the worst. The snow came and it stayed for a few days, the ca stayed in the same spot for a few days aswell, nevermind summer will be here soon.

Right now to RADIO.

Havent done a great deal , i have set up a FT-897D in the bedroom with a mobile whip on a mag mount in the garden. Totally bloddy rubbish. That is coming down and i have set the Hustler 5BTV up in the front room. It wont work very well probably because it is lying on its side LOL.

this will be ground mounted in the morning and i might be able to hear further than the end of the garden

Have not started building the shack, but watch this space

RN6BN EME CONTACT

On the night of the ARRL EME Contest 24th Of Novemeber 2007, with the help of Kevin G1KAW

we deceided to set up a qrp eme station in my tiny back garden.

The satation set up is 2 x 9 element tonna's phased horizontal with procom phasing harness, kenpro elevation and Hygain rotation. Rig used FT 897D running 50 Watts.

Pc was running WSJT 6 using Signalink SL-1+ interface into the rig.

This was my first attempt at JT65 and i was excited at the prospect of getting on the moon.

Station was setup and we just had to wait for the moon to rise above the roof line.

Started txing about 6.00pm , watching the N0UK cluster found RN6BN calling, so  we started calling  RN6BN in the hope of a contact. Within the hour we established a contact and this was confirmed after about 45 mins.

QSL card was dispatched in the post and wait in anticipation. Card arrived on the 16th of Febuary and i was over the moon!!!

I did try to make more EME contacts on the sunday of the contest but conditions were not on our side, so equipment was packed away till my next attempt..

At a loose end i raised the SCAM 12  with 17 element tonna and established my first MS contacts using FSK 441 with DK5OX(jn59) , SP2JYR (jo92) and S51AT (jn75) on 144mhz. What a weekend.....

Receiving RN6BN's qsl card , this was his first 2E0 Contact and i am claiming  that this is the first 2E0 Contact off the moon( unless anyone can prove different)

My Story....

When first licenced my main interest was and still is HF. You know how it is at first you start off with a couple of bits off Radio Equipment and this seems to spiral out of control. So my little corner of the front room was gradually being taken over by rigs, computers and other bits of equipment. Hence that is why i am in a shack at the bottom of the garden, and the other reason is, when playing radio late at night, the wife could hear every word through the ceiling, As time progressed i started to move along the radio spectrum and got very interested in 144mhz ssb, Being located in Ealing West London can be a bit depressing due to the  noise and static beaming over London, but you cant have everything. Along came long boom yagi's 9 ele's, 17 ele's phased together and so now i needed some height, so I invested in a Scam12 pneumatic mast which was bought from fellow ham G0KLX. Now it was time to do a bit of contesting, For the last two years I have taken part in the 144mhz UKAC contests on a tuesday evening with not bad results. It is not the winning but the taking part. . In 2008 I achieved leading intermediate station and will collect a shield at Kempton Park Rally on April the 19th 2009
